5 Reasons Punta Cana is Where You Want to Beach

by Lisa Mitchell June 14, 2017
written by Lisa Mitchell

(Punta Cana Beach.)

Punta Cana feels most like what you’d imagine the quintessential beach paradise to be like: white powdery beaches, luscious turquoise waves and fewer crowds. It is the closest thing to Beach Eden you might ever experience. Here’s a quick snapshot of why Punta Cana is an ideal vacation destination.

Hard Rock Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

1. The Beaches. Unlike some in the Caribbean and Mexico that are narrow or short, Punta Cana beaches are wide and deep. Bigger beaches mean more places for you to get a prime position with a great view of the blue and not be on top of other beach lovers. You’ll have more room to dig your toes into the soft sand, shut out the world and let your worries be swept away by the cool ocean breeze.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach, Dominican Republic,

2. The Water. It’s the most stunning color of turquoise that you’ll ever see. The temperature is like bath water and the waves are generally calm. You can swim, float, chill until it’s time to go back and refresh your cocktail. At times, you might feel like just sitting and staring at the water, speechless. It’s that hypnotizing and oh so good for the soul.

3. The Cocktails. Speaking of adult beverages, if you’re a rum lover, you’ll be in beach heaven. Imagine yourself relaxing on the beach sipping a fruity (but potent) Rum Punch, Pina Colada (we love these), or a refreshing Mojito. There are many others that will slay your taste buds and leave you feeling mighty fine like Mamajuana, which is rumored to be an aphrodisiac (read more about Mamajuana). And of course, a cold beer beachside is always easy to find.

Riu Palace Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

4. The Natural Beauty. Since this escape haven is a newer vacay spot, commerce has not come in and hacked away a lot of the jungle to create highways and other edifices of concrete as other highly populated destinations. This dreamy escape is green and lush. Best of all, you can immerse yourself in it because it’s bursting at the sandy seams with excursions. You can frolic with the nurse sharks and stingrays at the Marinarium. Go horseback riding amidst the flora and fauna. Sail over to Soana Island, where you’ll experience the magic of an (almost) uncharted island. You can zip line, hike through ecological parks, swim in Hoyo Azul cenote and so much more.

Little John at Juanillo Beach, Dominican Republic

5. The Locale. The weather is nearly perfect – temps range from upper 70s to low 80s the majority of the time. And while this beachy paradise is still developing, you can still find some gems along the coast. One of our favs is Little John that sits behind the Cap Cana Marina. From the patio, you can feast your eyes on the stunning Juanillo Beach hugged by turquoise waves, while you tickle your taste buds with oh-so satisfying grub. While in Cap Cana, you can visit the marina, check out Dolphin Island, play golf at Punta Espada or venture out to seas for some deep sea fishing. Wherever your ventures take you, you won’t be able to beat this kind of beach weather. While you’re kicking back, cocktail in hand, remember that the vibe here is decidedly Chill – with a capital “C.”

So, are you ready to get out of town and soak in the awesome that is Punta Cana? If so, we can help. If you want to get a lay of the sand in Punta Cana yourself, just go here. Life is short. We highly recommend that you spend it on the beach.

Hi Anita, thanks so much for reaching out. What kind of resort are you interested in? Big or small? Family-friendly or for singles? If you can tell me the kind of resort you’re looking for I can better direct you. Thanks! Lisa

Lisa, this looks a bit like what I imagine heaven to be. I am looking to take a vacation a little later this year and wondering where to go. Could you tell me if there is an all inclusive resort there? I am a sea lover also. Have been to Cancun but that is all. I will go by myself and wonder if this is a safe place for a single lady? I just would love to see more about it.

Thank you

Barbara, thanks so much for reaching out. There are many all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana. Since you’re single, what kind of atmosphere appeals to you? Spa-ish or meeting new people at a party? Somewhere in between? Just trying to get a feel for what you’re looking for. Thanks! Lisa

Hello Lisa,
I am writing on behalf of my graduating class. We are interested in an all inclusive including air fare preferably and would like information on packages and pricing. We are interested in traveling next year. Most of us are turning or are already 54 but still all enjoy having a good time. I live in Chattanooga Tn and there will be quite a few coming in from here but of course others from different destinations. We would be interested in group activities. Can you send me a few options for committee review.

Thanks!

Gwendolyn Davenport

Hi Gwen! We would love to help you and your graduating class. The best thing to do is to call one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-3162 and one of them will help you with all the scheduling, pricing, etc. I have recently been to Cabo and Playa del Carmen and love them both. Cabo does not have swimmable beaches but you can take a fun boat ride out to Los Arcos to see the natural rock formation, one that is awesome. Playa del Carmen has gorgeous beaches, lots of things to do like visit Mayan ruins (Tulum is amazing) and swim in Cenotes, natural underground springs. Let me know if you need any more help with this and I’ll make sure you get the info you need! All the best, Lisa

Hi Lisa,

If I were going on my first beach vacation for 7-8 days in the first week of December and don’t want to spend more than 1300 per person with all inclusive including air from San Francisco.

Where would you go???

My thoughts were punta Cana or maya riviera, my other half was thinking cabo.

Thank you for your time

Hi Kevin, thanks for getting in touch! You have come to the right place to get an all-inclusive beach vacay. The best thing to do is to call one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-3162 and one of them can better answer your questions about pricing than I can. As far as a choice between Punta Cana and Riv Maya, first thing to know is that the Riv Maya is easier to access. You just fly right into Cancun. Punta Cana might be a longer trek for you. But both are incredibly dreamy. I was just in the Riv Maya this past spring and loved it. Let me know if you can’t get anyone on the phone and I’ll make sure you get taken care of. Look forward to hearing from you! Lisa

Where is a good place to shopping while I am in Punta cuna?

Reply
Lisa Mitchell July 10, 2017 - 5:06 pm

Hi Cliff, thanks so much for getting in touch. There are lots of shopping areas in Punta Cana and the question is where you might be close to based on your resort, but if we had to narrow it down to one we’d say Palma Real Shopping Village. It’s very popular. Please let me know if there is anything else we can assist you with. Take care, Lisa

Reply
Lisa Mitchell July 10, 2017 - 5:16 pm

Hi Aide, thanks for reaching out to us! We do indeed offer packages to Wyndham resorts and the beaches they sit on are spectacular. Was there any destination in particular you had in mind? We’d love to help you create an all-inclusive beach vacay. Malta Vacations is a travel Company for Malta Europe, so we do not work with them. RCI is a timeshare company and we also do not work with them. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Until soon, Lisa
