Akumal and Tulum Food Guide

Now, more than ever, travelers are using food as a driving factor when trying to decide where to go for leisure travel. For us, it’s a no brainer where to go when we are in the market for a vacation to Mexico when we want truly delicious food. Our Akumal and Tulum Food Guide will walk you through all of our tried and tested, favorite spots in this beautiful beach area.

La Buena Vida Restaurant

Ready for your childhood dream of hanging out in a treehouse all afternoon, to come true? La Buena Vida is not only one of the best restaurants in Akumal and Tulum, but it’s a treehouse, too! Climb the treehouse steps for a bowl of delicious lime soup and the always-heavenly, empanadas, they’re both mouth-watering!

Posada Margherita

We know… You’re in Mexico… But seriously, this Italian restaurant is going to blow you away. The local fish and daily pastas are what keep this place fresh and exciting and don’t even get us started on the cocktails! They’re all soo tasty! The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, which is probably why it landed a spot on our 10 Instagram-Worthy Spots in Akumal and Tulum post.

Rosa Negra

One of our favorites is the popovers, did we mention they are complimentary? Doesn’t get better than that! We always go straight for the burger, and as you can see, you can opt in for the baby burger on top and make it a double-decker!

Mateo’s

If you’re in the mood for some of the best fish tacos Tulum has to offer, Mateo’s is your place. Their fish tacos are insane and the ceviche is definitely worth getting. At Mateo’s, you’re getting some of the freshest seafood, most delicious cocktails and best atmosphere in the area!

The Real Coconut

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks? Everything is a specialty at The Real Coconut in Tulum, which is probably why this spot landed on our Akumal and Tulum Food Guide. This adorable beachfront restaurant offers healthy, sustainably sourced, local options, that will have your taste buds jumping for joy. When you’re so over all of the unhealthy options staring you down, The Real Coconut is the perfect spot for a healthy bite. Don’t forget to add a cup of bone broth to complete your meal, you won’t regret it!

Come for breakfast and stay for dessert! The sticky buns and eggs benedict, at this colorful little bakery, are sure to have your day off on the right foot and if you’re stopping by for an afternoon treat, you can’t skip out on a scoop of Lucy’s Homemade Ice Cream! The ice cream is all made in small batches and you can taste the love in every scoop. They’re also located just steps from Secrets Akumal, one of our favorite resorts in the area!

El Merkadito

If seafood is your thing (if it isn’t, you’re crazy), El Merkadito is your place! The ceviche is what really makes this place one of the best restaurants in Akumal and Tulum. The beachfront location and delicious food will have you begging to come back the next day. Don’t forget to grab a margarita served in a tin cup, it’s a fun twist on the usual!
