Believe it or not, la Dia de los Muertos, or “the Day of the Dead,” calls for tons of celebration, colorful festivities and lots of festive food and cocktails! If you’re planning a themed gathering of your own, you have to try this tart and flavorful blood orange screwdriver. It’s perfect for the occasion, and your taste buds will surely be thanking us later.

Thankfully, we’re diving straight into blood orange season in the next few weeks, there will be no shortage, so you can just keep ’em coming!

Blood Orange Screwdriver

  • ice
  • 4 oz chilled vodka
  • 12 oz blood orange juice
  1. Generously fill a glass with ice cubes

  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine ice, chilled vodka and blood orange juice

  3. Shake the cocktail thoroughly, and strain into the glasses with ice

  4. Garnish with a fresh blood orange wedge

Although they’re our favorite, cocktails aren’t the only way to celebrate this traditional Mexican holiday, of course! To keep the festivities going, check out this fun tutorial on how to create a festive Dia de los Muertos face painting.

Hello, hope everyone is well.. this drink looks very delicious indeed but I am somewhat confused as to what is around the edge of the glass? Salt or Sugar? And what are the drops that are put in the glass after the drink is poured and garnished with the blood orange slice? Thanks for your answer.

Hi Rose! We used sugar, and it’s delicious! At the end, we just squeezed a few more drops of juice from a blood orange slice.
