Flora Farm and Flora’s Field Kitchen – They’re Caboliscious

by Lisa Mitchell August 11, 2016
written by Lisa Mitchell

In the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains in San Jose del Cabo sits Flora Farms Los Cabos, an idyllic, ten-acre organic farm that is the epicenter of nature’s bounty. For 10 years, these hearty folks have worked the land by hand, yielding produce without the use of pesticides or genetically modified seeds. They nourish it from the top down with layers of compost, mulch and decomposing cover crops. But that’s not all Flora Farms does. They also produce high-quality, humanely raised chicken, eggs, pork and beef, and partner with “Jefe” Guadalupe Espinoza on his 150-acre ranch in Santa Anita. Jefe Lupe cares deeply about the conditions his animals are raised in, so Flora Farms has worked with him to set up sustainable ranching operations. The feed for these critters is all vegetable and contain no hormones or antibiotics, and they are milled fresh every two weeks.

All of these wholesome, humane practices supply Flora’s Field Kitchen with veggies and protein that lead to the most delicious cuisine that will ever pass your lips. In fact, Flora’s Field Kitchen is sort of like a Foodie Dream Heaven. But first, a glimpse into their day and how they work their magic.

It all begins at four in the morning when Jose, the baker, arrives to fire the wood oven. He then gets to work on whipping up the most mouth-watering bread you’ve ever experienced – loaves of Pain L’ancienne baguettes, ciabatta, sourdough, focaccia, whole wheat and herb breads. At first light, everyone else arrives: chefs, cooks, stewards, the butcher and farm hands. When the morning produce arrives, they begin a well-choreographed “dance,” which by evening spawns a healthy, epicurean meal for the whole family in a warm, inviting cozy abode. In the evening and for Sunday brunches, the wood-burning oven becomes Mamas pizzeria, where you can enjoy Neapolitan pizza with fresh mozzarella and dough that is lovingly built over time and handled lightly.

Last but certainly never least, there’s the Farm Bar. As you prime your palate for your sumptuous feast at Flora Farms Los Cabos, you can chillax in an urban-meets-country structure of brick, metal and glass that has a view of the field surrounding Flora Farms. Here, you can sip on everything from traditional cocktails, wine and beer to a full-range of fruit and vegetable-infused specialty libations. We recommend the heirloom carrot Farmarita, their spin on the traditional Margarita, and the Farm Julep made with fresh watermelon juice.

Are you salivating yet? Want to be transported to Flora Farms Los Cabos in magical Mexico? It’s easy. Just call 1-800-915-3162 and one of our sea-phisticated BhDs will create an all-inclusive, beachtastic vacation package that will blow you away. Flora Farms and Flora’s Field Kitchen are the a few of the earth-heavens we can take you to. No matter where you end up, they’re all delicious.
